About PDF Documents

Much information on this website (and the Web in general) is presented as a PDF document. The term "PDF" refers to a proprietary document format developed by the Adobe Corporation that allows text and graphics to be transmitted over the internet in a single file.

To display such files in a browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, you must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader software or browser plug-in installed on your system. This is available on Adobe's website as a free download. Please note that installing Adobe Acrobat involves both downloading the file and installing it. Downloading the file alone from Adobe's website does not necessarily install it. You must locate the downloaded file on your hard drive and double click it to install it.

One other thing to mention about PDF Documents. It is possible to display a form as a PDF document but this comes in two varieties: one variety is a simple image that cannot be completed on the computer; rather it must be printed and completed in some hard-copy way, either with a typewriter or by hand. The other is an image that has input boxes or "fields" defined that can be completed with the computer. If you cannot point your mouse into an input box (field) on a form, it is the first variety. We have both types of forms on this website, but we try to indicate which is which.
