Registration Instructions
M.S.W. Program - Portland

Students may register for classes online, check class schedules, check class space availability, and check grades by using the PSU Student Information System. To log into the system you will need to use your PSU Student ID number and your six-digit date of birth as your password. If you have difficulty accessing this for the first time, call the PSU Help Desk at 725-HELP or call the Registrar's Office at 503-725-3412 and choose option 0.

Once you have completed the above steps, you can view your class schedule by selecting Student Schedule Detail.

We recommend that you print out your student schedule.

Reminder: If you want to request space in a closed class, put a request in writing to our designated registration e-mail account at mswregis@pdx.edu. We do not guarantee that we will be able to grant requests. Students are guaranteed space in required courses but we cannot guarantee the day or time of the section of which a student may be permissioned once classes are closed (full).

An important note about registering in practice courses:

Students may continue with the same instructor for their practice classes. However, spaces are only considered 'reserved' the first week of registration. Students trying to switch instructors must first contact both their current instructor and the intended new instructor for authorization to switch sections. Registration with authorization can then take place one week after the registration window opens if space is available. Any student attempting to switch sections on the first week of registration will be disenrolled from that section and notified accordingly. If you have questions concerning this policy you may contact Jodene Rudolf in the Office of Student Affairs at jodene@pdx.edu or 503-725-3949.

Other registration problems: prequisite, co-requisite or major code restriction error messages.

Pre-requisites: make certain that you have met the pre-requisites for the course(s) you are attempting to register for. You can check this online on the class schedule by referring to the footnotes (single digits located between section numbers and course titles) or look up on the Projected Elective List. Note: If you are a waiver, transfer or advanced standing student having trouble with pre-requisites please contact Jodene Rudolf in the Office of Student Affairs at jodene@pdx.edu or 503-725-3949 for assistance. All other students should check to see if pre-requisites have been met. If not, the course is reserved for advanced level students only.

Co-requisites: usually applies to our field instruction (SW 500) and practice course con-current enrollment feature. Students must register for BOTH courses (SW 500 and SW 530, ex) before completing registration or registration will not be successfull.

Major Code Restriction: Troubleshoot by making certain that you are registering on the correct day. Advanced students, students who have successfully completed SW 532 with a B- or above, register on the first day of registration. All other students register on the second day of registration. If you are correctly attempting to register and are still receiving a major code restriction contact Jodene Rudolf in the Office of Student Affairs at jodene@pdx.edu.
