For Our Distance Students
M.S.W. Program

M.S.W. - Distance Option

Students living in communities outside of the Portland metropolitan area.can receive an MSW degree through enrollment in the School of Social Work - Distance Option. The MSW - Distance Option is a three-year program that utilizes classroom and online instruction with field practice in students’ local communities. In the first year, distance students meet four times per term on the main PSU campus in Portland. Second-year and third-year courses are offered every Friday at each distance site. We are currently admitting to program sites in Ashland and Salem.

Ashland Site

Located on the Southern Oregon University campus, the Ashland Site of the MSW Distance Option draws students from the Southern Oregon counties of Jackson, Josephine, Curry, and Klamath, as well as Siskiyou County in California. In the second and third year of the program, MSW students attend classes on the SOU campus, where the Ashland Site Coordinator is located. These students usually complete their two years of practicum in their home communities.

Salem Site

While only an hour’s drive from our main campus, the Salem Distance Option offers classes in the second and third year of our program in Salem every Friday. Field Placements these years are usually within the student’s home County. The main counties represented in the Salem Distance Option include: Marion, Polk, Linn, Benton, Lincoln, and Yamhill. The diversity of both the student group and placement options continues to grow in this Distance Site.
