Gerontology Certificate
M.S.W. Program

For students interested in specializing in Gerontological Social Work, the Graduate School of Social Work participates in a Gerontology Certificate program in cooperation with the Institute on Aging of Portland State University. The Graduate Certificate in Gerontology provides multidisciplinary training for post-baccalaureate students interested in working with older adults in a variety of settings. With careful planning, the certificate may be obtained with only a few more than the 78 quarter credits required for the MSW program. Students entering the MSW program who have obtained the Gerontology Certificate within the last five years can carry over some credits towards the MSW. For further information on credits that count towards the MSW please see the last paragraph in the Curriculum section. Also see the following PDF documents:

Please contact the MSW/Graduate Gerontology Certificate coordinator, Vicki Cotrell at cotrellv@pdx.edu or 503-725-8024 if you are interested in pursuing this joint program.
