"Health and Quality of Life of Elders in Nicaragua." - Dr. Milton Lopez Norori

Presenter: PSU's Institute on Aging, the Jessie F. Richardson Foundation, and the Gerontology Association (PSU student group)
Details: Dr. Milton Lopez is a geriatric physician and a champion for improving the quality of life of older adults in Nicaragua. He is the former Director of Planning and Development for PROFAMILIA (2005-2008) - a Nicaraguan family planning organization - and he has worked as a consultant for other government agencies in Nicaragua that focus on national policy for older adults. He received his Doctorate of Medicine and Masters of Public Health at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua UNAN-Managua, where he now serves as an adjunct professor in the School of Medicine. He also received a Masters in Gerontology from the Universidad Aut?noma de Madrid in Spain. Dr. Lopez's research has focused on long-term care institutions and the living conditions of the elderly in rural and urban Nicaragua. Dr. Lopez serves as the local program coordinator for the Global Aging and Health program, a service learning program partnership between the Jessie F. Richardson Foundation (a Portland-based charitable non-profit organization) and PSU's Institute on Aging. Commuting Students Networking

Details: Do you commute to the School of Social Work from outside the Portland Metro Area? If so, you are invited to a gathering of commuting students on Monday November 9 at noon in Room 401-M at the SSW. Bring your lunch and we will provide juice and cookies. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for commuting students to get to know each other, share common concerns, and discuss possible strategies for making life easier for the commuting student. If you are interested in networking with other commuters but cannot attend this event, please email Jim Nash at nashj@pdx.edu and we can talk about scheduling something similar at other times or other ways of networking.

Details: A program of local and national speakers. Attendance at the day-long Symposium is free, but only a limited number of spaces are available. Registration information appears on the flyer. MSW students can count attendance at the Symposium towards their field hours with the prior approval of their field supervisor. Mid Valley Field Instructor Workshop: Attachment Issues in Supervision and Culturally Responsible Field Instruction
